Compression garments rely on precisely engineered elastic fibres. Heat, harsh detergents and rough handling break those fibres down — and a garment that has lost its stretch no longer delivers the pressure you need.
With a simple daily routine, you can keep your garment working as intended for its full lifespan.
Washing the right way
Daily washing actually helps — it restores the fibres’ elasticity and removes oils and dead skin that degrade the fabric.
- Wash daily by hand or on a delicate cycle in a wash bag
- Use cool or lukewarm water (never hot)
- Choose a mild, residue-free detergent
- Avoid bleach, fabric softener and harsh soaps
Drying and storage
Heat is the enemy of elastic. How you dry and store your garment matters as much as how you wash it.
- Press out water gently in a towel — never wring or twist
- Air-dry flat, away from direct heat and sunlight
- Never tumble-dry, iron or place on a radiator
- Store flat in a drawer, not stretched over a hook
When to replace
Even with perfect care, compression fibres wear out. Most garments need replacing every three to six months.
- It feels noticeably easier to put on than when new
- The fabric looks thin, shiny or slack
- Swelling or symptoms start to creep back
- It no longer leaves a gentle, even imprint
